CHONGQING, China - In the vibrant chaos of Chongqing city, Xie Juan, a devoted mother and doctor, faced the relentless juggle between family and a demanding medical career. Amidst this delicate balance, the "Come to Me" booklet emerged as an unexpected yet compelling guide. Every topic addressed in the booklet comes with a relevant scripture, and provides a compass through life's intricacies.

A believer for years, Xie regularly delves into the rich teachings of the Bible. Receiving the “Come to Me” booklet from her pastor infuses a new depth into her spiritual journey. As she shares it within her clinic, she values its organised topics, providing an accessible guide for her and others to navigate through relevant passages, complementing the profound teachings of the Bible.

“For me personally, the booklet addresses the highs and lows, confusion, disappointment, and fears that resonate with the contemporary human experience.”

Upon receiving the "Come to Me" booklet, Xie was captivated by the vibrant cityscape on its cover, interpreting it as a symbolic representation of the world we live in. “It highlighted the complexity of our lives, entangled with numerous thoughts and distractions. I saw it as a reminder that, regardless of the chaos, seeking peace in God is paramount,” Xie shared. As she delved into its contents and studied the scriptures which speak to the various topics, Xie found herself deeply inspired. “For me personally, the booklet addresses the highs and lows, confusion, disappointment, and fears that resonate with the contemporary human experience.”

Despite appearing to have a stable career as a clinic doctor, Xie faces the challenge of prolonged working hours until 9pm daily, leaving minimal time for her children and household responsibilities. Contemplating a shift to a hospital through a professional medical exam proved unsuccessful, compounding her predicament. Quitting her job to be a full-time homemaker wasn't feasible due to the financial constraints based on her husband's income alone. The search for a new job yielded no suitable opportunities.

In the midst of her struggles, Xie came across the last topic, “Two Paths in Life,” in the "Come to Me" booklet. It serves as a timely reminder that God is sovereign and in control, and emphasises the importance of choosing to follow Him above all else.

Xie Juan found encouragement through the scriptures and topics found in the "Come to Me" booklet

In the midst of her struggles, Xie came across the last topic, “Two Paths in Life,” in the "Come to Me" booklet. It serves as a timely reminder that God is sovereign and in control, and emphasises the importance of choosing to follow Him above all else. Psalm 103:13 (“As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him”) reinforces this message, highlighting the loving care God extends to those who fear Him. "This revelation lifted a burden from my heart, and guided me through professional challenges with patience and anticipation. In its wake, a reflective contentment renewed my soul," Xie shared with gratitude.

The Bible verse, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good," (Romans 8:28a ESV), spoke to Xie’s circumstances. Working in a community clinic exposes her to the struggles faced by young working adults. Witnessing their confusion, ignorance, and disregard for life – some resorting to abortion, others contemplating suicide, and some rebelliously leaving home – ignited her fervor to introduce God into their lives. Beyond physical healing, she aspires to facilitate spiritual healing. Distributing the "Come to Me" booklet becomes her means of extending hope to these young souls, providing a glimmer of hope and light during their moments of despair. With her conviction growing, Xie believes that God has placed her in this position for a purpose, and the challenges faced by these young people serve as a poignant reminder for her to invest more time in guiding and educating her own children.

The "Come to Me" booklet not only strengthens believers but also serves as a compass for those who, like Xie, face emotional struggles and urges them to open their hearts to God. The United Bible Societies considers it a privilege to serve and support the Chinese churches in spreading God’s Word through these life-transforming booklets.
