The Amity Foundation (AF), an independent Chinese social development organisation founded on the initiative of Chinese Christians, with its headquarters based in Nanjing, China, celebrated their 40th Anniversary on 18 November 2025 with the theme, “Love is Eternal”.
Local and overseas partners, including UBS, came together on this special occasion to rejoice with AF as they celebrated their 40th anniversary.
Rejoicing with Mr Qiu Zhonghui, Chairman of AF (2nd from right), at AF’s 40th anniversary celebrations were Mr Kua Wee Seng (1st from right), former Director of UBS China Partnership and former Vice Chairman of the Board of Amity Printing Company (APC), Mr Richard Tsang (2nd from left), Vice Chairman of APC’s Board, and Dr Bernard Low (1st from right), Director of UBS China Partnership (UBSCP) and Board member of APC.
Friendship and partnership between AF, UBS and the Chinese church leaders dates back to 1985. AF partnered with UBS to establish APC which has grown to become the world’s largest Bible printing press today.

In February 1985, a landmark meeting in Hong Kong took place between the leaders of UBS and the China Christian Council & Three-Self Patriotic Movement (CCC&TSPM) to discuss the feasibility of setting up a printing press. Representing UBS were Rev James Payne, Rev Dr John Erickson, Rev Chan Young Choi, Dr I-Jin Loh and Mr David Thorne. Representing CCC&TSPM were Bishop K. H. Ting, Dr Han Wenzao and Rev George Wu. A month later, AF and UBS signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a printing press in Nanjing, China.
At AF’s 40th Anniversary, there was a reunion filled with significance. Present on this special occasion were two persons who witnessed the signing of the MOU in March 1985: Mr David Thorne (2nd from left), who used to be the Production and Supply Consultant for APC, and Dr Philip Wickeri (2nd from right).
As part of AF’s 40th anniversary celebrations, a group of guests joined a guided tour to visit APC, the world’s largest Bible printing press. To date, APC has printed a total of over 286 million Bibles, including more than 96 million copies for China, and the rest exported in nearly 290 different languages to over 158 countries.
AF’s 40th Anniversary Celebration was attended by UBS Fellowship Council member, Rev Mathew K. Punnoose, who is also the General Secretary of The Bible Society of Malaysia, as well as Dr Bernard Low, UBSCP Director, and Mr Kua Wee Seng, former Director of UBSCP.  The celebrative event included guided exposure tours to AF’s various social development services including a Nursing Home, Elderly Care Service Centre and Amity Bakery.
