"As a preacher, I cherish this Chinese Study Bible. It retains the familiar text and offers rich, updated notes. I love it and gladly recommend it to others.” Rev Wang Conglian, Guangxi, China.

GUANGXI, China — In the heart of Guangxi, Rev Wang Conglian has devoted more than three decades to shepherding God’s people. As Chairman of Guangxi Three-Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM), he oversees the spiritual care of more than 50,000 believers across 331 churches and preaching points. In addition to this provincial leadership role, he also serves as the Senior Pastor of Immanuel Church, where he personally shepherds a 200-member congregation, preaching, teaching, and discipling with unwavering dedication.

Rev Wang’s calling began in a small Christian village in rural Anhui, where he grew up in a believing family. Though introduced to Jesus at a young age, it was only in high school that he truly repented and surrendered his life to Christ. After graduating from Nanjing Union Theological Seminary in 1994, he began full-time ministry in Guangxi and has served faithfully ever since.

Throughout his ministry, Rev Wang has used many different Bible editions and study tools. But nothing has impacted him quite like the Chinese Study Bible (CSB). “The moment I received the Chinese Study Bible, I opened it and started reading. I realised it was exactly what I needed. The CSB uses the Chinese Union Version of the Bible, but it also has annotations showing alternative readings from the Revised Chinese Union Version. So, it's like having two versions of the Bible in one book.”

Published in 2017, the CSB contains notes, book introductions, illustrations, maps, charts and tables, cross-reference system, and other materials from Crossway’s acclaimed ESV Study Bible. The CSB was developed to help pastors, preachers, and believers engage with God’s Word more deeply. Rev Wang now uses the CSB every day for personal devotions, sermon preparation, and training future church workers. “It helps me better understand and teach God’s Word.”

Rev Wang finds the study notes especially helpful in deepening his understanding of God’s Word. For example, in Genesis 3:6, the notes clarify that Adam was “with her” when Eve ate the fruit, an important detail that sheds new light on the story of the fall. Beyond the textual explanations, the CSB includes numerous illustrations, charts, and maps that enrich his grasp of the biblical context. These visual aids, such as diagrams outlining the three phases of temple construction or depictions of fishing boats used during Jesus’ time, provide intuitive and practical insights. Together, these features help Rev Wang and those he teaches to engage more fully with God’s Word, enabling clearer and more accurate interpretation for ministry and personal growth.

“In my training classes, I would walk my students through the study charts and maps. This makes them more interested in God’s Word. The CSB has now become the most-used Bible among them.”

What excites Rev Wang most is how the CSB benefits his students. “In my training classes, I would walk my students through the study charts and maps. This makes them more interested in God’s Word. The CSB has now become the most-used Bible among them.”

Despite his extensive ministry experiences, Rev Wang continues to grow spiritually through the CSB. “I carry it with me every day,” he said. “It’s not just a tool for ministry. It nourishes my soul. It equips me to teach more faithfully and shepherd more wisely.”

Rev Wang is deeply grateful to the supporters who made the CSB available:  “Thank you for your generous and meaningful support. Because of your kindness, preachers like me can teach more clearly, believers can grow deeper, and churches in China can be strengthened on a solid foundation of God’s Word. May the Lord richly bless you. Indeed, it is more blessed to give than to receive.”
